Am I the only one in the Slayers fandom that actually LIKES Lina, I mean, come on, she can't be THAT selfish. She did give herself to ensure Gourry would survive

I think she rocks! I can understand why some people might not care for her flaws, and it's fine of they don't like her. But that doesn't mean she really and truly is a horrible character.
(Then again, her TV dub voice didn't score many points with me. x.x)

Aww...I love her dub voice. In fact, that's what did it for me! For whatever reason, I found Lisa Ortiz a better fit than Megumi Hayashibara, but that's just personal opinion. It's fine that people don't like her (to me) but during a fest in which Slayers will be watched, please don't tell me how Sylphiel shouldn't have revived her. (And don't even get me started on Sylphiel.) That's just rude. Thank you! I'm glad other people see it the same way I do.
Even ignoring the balant bashiing and illogic -- the series is about Lina; she is the main character; she ain't gonna die in the first season of three. And that's against Sylphiel's character -- the girl's a trained shrine maiden, she sees a barely concious body, especially of a friend of someone she's infatuated with, and especially someone who's been trying to save her life repeatedly, and she will keep casting healing spells until the person gets better, or she can't cast no more.
What. The fuck? I love Lina! She's cute, independent, strong, and she is very attached to her friends.
The canon vs. non-canon pairing war... *flicks it off* Don't worry about it. I may not be a canon pairing fan, but I realize it exists and that it's possible to treat it with respect when writing a non-canon pairing. Most fans that have been in this fandom for a few years realize this.
I guess I wasn't entirely trying to discuss the pairing war, but I'm sick of that too. I appreciate a good conversation on WHY whomever and Lina are better together, but some people are just too defiant or stupid and it ends up in a horrible war. (I'm sure there's some non-canon pairings you don't agree with too.) Speaking of which, which one do you support? But yes, there ARE people who don't like the strongest woman in anime I've ever seen. Why is that anyway?
*snort* If you want, I'll find my rant back. It was filled with "I can see these canon pairings happen IF this happens, and I can see these non-canon pairings IF this happens" quotes. Mostly, I think the canon pairings work NOW, but not LATER. The non-canon pairings have the problem of not working NOW, but I can see them lasting.
You know, I never thought of it that way, but each have different ways of looking at it. If you could find that rant, that'd be great! I'd like to read it.
I've only seen the first season so far but I don't get this either. Aw, for heck's sake, who could not like Lina? She is indeed independent and strong and if she doesn't mope around after Gourry, good for her. She kicks butt and she sticks by her friends when it counts.
And while I respect that people don't want to ship the canon pairings, as I don't in many shows, in this one I happen to go canon (and I always thought many other people did too?) I guess that's a matter for hated_pairings? But for the record I really don't see what's to hate about this one, in fact I have a cute little Gourry/Lina doujinshi.
I actually got it at an anime convention, but I have seen some on ebay. I'd offer to scan it for you but unfortunately my scanner is semi-permanently broken >
Lina grows and changes in Slayers so much that I can't help but like her. In the OAVs (before Season 1) she is still very childish and much more frivolous than she is by the end of TRY.
And I love the ways she interacts with the other three main characters -- well, I love the dynamic between all four characters. I would love to write more fics just involving two or more of the main characters -- not even romance fics, even.
May I recommend hatedslayers? Great community, if a bit dead.
I love Lina! Slayers was the first anime I got really into (years ago) and I would have never gotten into it without a strong female lead like Lina. I really, really, REALLY hate fanfics where Lina is turned into a weepy, spineless, weak, little wifey. Horrible Slayers fanfics like that has stopped me from reading most fanfic entirely unless someone read it first and approved.

Do you read shippy fanfics? You could read some of mine if you wanted.
