I venture downstairs. Adam’s watching the news, and politely greets me. “Jesus, you look awful.” I mock laugh, then launch a counter-attack. “FUCK YOU, YA FUCKIN’ FUCK!!!” He looks straight at me, trying not to smile, before remarking “Fuck you, ya fuckin’ fuck? There is freedom of speech, then there is just plain antagonism. If not intentionally insulting, it shows a remarkable lack of common sense on the part of the publishers.

Also the juxtaposition of worthwhile social commentary and a dude falling in a positively hilarious manner = sweet

Yeah, I actually agree with the British Press' stance (ie not being bullied into printing them by European counterparts). Even The Sun has done the right thing!

Nah, they're just too scared. What I want to know is why it's taken so long for this whole thing to come out. The pictures were published in September...

My awesome president has been an even bigger tool. Denouncing the cartoonists and the newspapers for printing these cartoons really follows up on all those freedom of speech, democracy, liberty buzz speeches he's been giving for the last, oh, 4 years, doesn't it? Say what you will about the content...I've seen the cartoons online and they're pretty harmless (note: me? not muslim). But I'm crazy for the 1st Ammendment like gun-rack owning rednecks are crazy about the 2nd. Anything that rubs against its shiny, perfect ideals gives me weird feelings.

I guess my point was really that I wish the beautiful thing that is free speech was being fought over by a piece of art that actually had real value and merit, then this whole storm in a tea-cup wouldn't be so laughable. But why am I complaining? I love it!

With regards to the British Papers stance, by this point they probably should have re-printed them as they are undoubtedly news-worthy and the discussion has to show people the cartoon itself to promote healthy discussion, but I guess Freedom of Speech is also the freedom to abstain...
