I got the same sense from the few lines she and her parents had together. Mom was bewildered, sad that Audrey wasn't her sweet little girl anymore who believed everything Mommy said. There was a strange demarcation between grade school and junior high for me, too, when my mom started understanding me less and my dad became a good friend. It evened out eventually, but I remember painfully how lost my mother felt with me sometimes.
It's funny, we know so little about Audrey in the movie. She's kind of a caricature with a couple touching moments. It's so nice to see her fleshed out.

You know, when I was watching the movie I hardly even registered Audrey. Every time she came on the screen I was like, who the-- oh yeah, I remember her. It's proving pretty fun.. like colouring in something someone else has drawn. Not quite so tedious but still challenging. :)
Which reminds me, I've been working on a sketch, all. damn. day. Of Gabriel and Audrey, I mean. It was driving me crazy for the longest time because I just could not get their faces, but now I've done hers and I'm best part through his, so I'd imagine I might actually, possibly, get it drawn out before bed tonight! I still don't know that I've really got their faces properly, but for someone who hasn't picked up a pencil in like, jeez, two years or more? I think I've gotten fairly close. Though I kind of feel like the two of them have ended up in different kind of styles which is a little weird..
