VIRGINIA:

Virginia seceded from the Union on April 17th, 1861. West Virginia voted to remain loyal and seceded from Virginia on June 19th, 1861. Virginians were indignant at the idea.

Virginia is known as the Mother of States.

The father is believed to be Thomas Jefferson.
