Goldfrapp Review

It was good, above average, perhaps even touching on great, but as possibly the show I've looked forward to more than any other this year it kinda let me down. Part of this might be my fault as I came straight from a crazy busy work day, missed the first song and a half and took another two songs to really get in the right mindset. Also, I had zero to drink.

The Nokia Theatre is beautiful. It's annoying as hell that it's in Times Square, but it was the perfect venue for her. The stage set up was great with Alison rocking a sexy black jumpsuit and her musicians dressed as Jesus, a Burninmanesque freak, and other assorted characters. There were dancers in fetish outfits in about a third of the songs. The songs, needless to say, were fantastic (though I still like Black Cherry better than Supernature).

But here's the thing, it wasn't NEARLY loud enough. K2 and I could easily talk to each other without really even raising our voices. And, at least partially due to this fact, the crowd was not really dancing much. A show like that should be OVERWHELMING. About the only time it even approached the level that I wanted was during Ooh La La which was the last song of the set. It should have been loud, and intense, and a rolling sensory overload. I wish it has been on a Friday night so I could have gotten dressed up in glitter and danced in the middle of a throbbing crowd while my head exploded from the lights and music. That's what I wanted from Goldfrapp. And she should have played Twist.

It was a good show though.
