Claire Bennet tucked her arms around her legs and held them to her as she stared out at the lake. She let out a small smile as a frog jumped of a lily pad and into the water. But the smile ended quickly as she sighed. It had only been a few days since she left her home and came to live here at the institute with her older brother. She made a few friends, met so many interesting people that she felt somewhat bad for wanting to back. Maybe it would be back to the lies and secrets her adoptive dad told her, but she missed her adoptive parents and Lyle.
It wasn’t like she didn’t like spending time with her older brother, Scott was great, but she wished she could spend more time together. But he was off being and ‘X-Man,’ getting into danger trying to protect the world from Magneto’s stupid plans or recruiting new recruits. He wasn’t invincible like she was, so she couldn’t help but worrying over his health when he went off on X-men missions.
“What are you doing out here?” He asked, wrapping a blanket around her which caused Claire to blush and laugh. She held the blanket to her as Scott sat down beside her.
“Thanks,” she said, “I’m just thinking, what are you doing out here?”
“Seeing if you were okay,” Scott replied.
“I’m fine,” Claire said, with a small smile.
“Are you sure?” Scott asked, pulling her to him so he could put his arm around her. “You miss your family?”
“I do miss them, but that’s not really why I’m like how I am.” She paused, and rested her head on his shoulder. “I’m worried about you. I know you’ve been doing this for years, but you’re not indestructible. You’re the only real family I have, and I don’t want to lose you.”
Scott frowned; he hadn’t known she cared so much about him already. “I’m sorry about going away from time to time, but I’m good at what I do. I’ll be fine on the missions; I have Ororo, Logan, Bobby, Rogue, and Peter watching my back just as I’m watching theirs. And you’re the only real family I have too, and I don’t want to lose you either.” He stated, kissing her on the forehead, trying to give her some comfort.
THE END.
