The SSHG Award Nomations Are Up!

Apr 01, 2008 11:56

The sshg_awards nominations were just posted-and I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate the nominees on my f-list. You are going to make it very, very hard to vote. VERY. Just the thought of voting for shorts is making me want to cry...

drmm’s “Forgive Us Our Debts” broke my heart and almost made me cry.
warded_portal’s “Sanctuary” is damn sexy with a line (“What ( Read more... )

Every year, I use the Academy Awards and Golden Globes to tell me which movies I should be watching. There are thousands of movies that come out, and while I love movies, I don't have the time or the inclination to weed through the mediocre stuff to get to the really good stuff. I tend to watch ALL the nominees, because they were good enough to make the final cut.

I think we're lucky as a fandom to have people who are willing to put up with the sour grapes in order to bring us the best of the best. And I hope to be able to make time to read all of the nominees. Because that's what it's all about. Getting recognized as being a cut above the rest.

And you, dear HB, are a cut above the rest. You're an absolute gem. (Also, did you mean, "What say you?"

There are just too many fics out there. We need a filter. SSHG alone rivals in size many fandoms. Thus moderated archives. And invite-only archives. And rec sites and the digest. And awards. The harshest critics of Know-it-Alls, the rec site I'm involved with, are huge fans of the moderated archives. And yet recs and awards aren't gate keepers--they don't control access to readers, they don't try to control an author's content--they just point. And it's a game open to all.

And you, dear HB, are a cut above the rest. You're an absolute gem.

::blushes:: Thanks!

Also, did you mean, "What say you?"

I did. ::hangs head in shame:: I didn't even think to double check--because I just remembered that line sending the chills down my back with nary a reread. I fixed it though!

But damn it all--did you have to make things so hard? Canvas & Paint or Snape, A History?

*low whimper* Decisions, decisions...

See, I'm just glad people are reading. If people think the story is deserving of an award, that's wonderful too. It's the highest form of praise. I know it sounds contrite, but I really am just happy to be nominated.

Believe me, I understand. In this company? I'd be happy just to be nominated too.

And no one loses by this--no one is taking anything away from you if you're not nominated. And it might get stories read people weren't aware of--a very good thing.

"Just the thought of voting for shorts is making me want to cry..."

I agree. I feel your pain.

I refuse to vote on drabbles, and nominate them. I am way too close.

Ditto my sentiments on the gift concept.

In a way, a shame--cuz who'd be a better judge? But I understand. It's going to be hard enough as it is.

Nice post! And geez, you're so right; it's going to be so difficult to choose just one in each category. ~sighs~

I was trying to see if it helps if I note which stories are nominated in other categories--if I can just nominate ones only in one cat first, then "catch up" with the other favs elsewhere.

Didn't help much--because often they'll be tag teamed by yet another fav. Also going to try to spread the wealth when it comes to authorship, but in a lot of cases I think it's going to come down to eeinie, meanie, minnie, moe.

But really, in the end, an embarrassment of riches isn't a bad problem to have. Good for the ship.

I know what you mean about having to choose. Too many that are too good... Ah well, it's a good problem to have ( ... )

I've never been comfy with pimping myself, whether on WIKTT by posting I updated or doing that, even though I ultimately did put a list of my eligible stories up on my LJ ( ... )
