Nov 02, 2009 17:18

The nominees for the sshg_awards have been posted here with links. Voting begins on the 5th and runs an entire month, so there's time to catch up on stories here you missed, and voting is a lot less involved than nominating (you don't have to worry about what's eligible among other things, and only one vote per category so you don't have to write out multiple ( Read more... )

Nope, didn't officially sign up and still feeling my way. Only have about 500 odd words written so I'm already woefully behind. But I'm working my way up to it. Been quite a while really since I've been able to sustain wordage.

Well said on the awards etiquette! (Though my jaw still drops at the idea of anybody telling a nominee that she deserved to be nominated instead. WTF is wrong with people?)

But picking up BoS again is SUCH good news! ~cheers you on~

You can do it!

Disappointment, I totally get. Whining to friends in private and licking wounds, totally necessary at times. After all, writing and posting what you write makes most people feel very vulnerable. Who will like it? How much? Is it good enough? Will anybody read it? *whimpers

But I wave a flaming sword at anybody who impugns the ethics of people who have put in hundreds of hours of work (yes, I said hundreds... coding, counting, verifying, entering... *shudders), and who set up a system that is all about integrity. Cheating and conspiracies? *growls

But it's sooooo unfair, because they didn't hand me the award straight away rather than allowing voting.... and I did all that pimping for nothing.

Oh wait.

*snickers* If anyone provides any, I'll at least put them on this post, even if not create a new post its own. Because I don't want to belabor the subject. But JESUS. Are they five? Seriously.

I know that there are people who are genuinely discouraged when they don't receive a nomination banner, and I'm sorry that they're discouraged. It doesn't automatically mean they didn't get nominated, though. Until the big list of all the nominations is posted, none of us know. The way I understand the process is that it's the top five, and the difference between those can be as small as one vote.

However, I do laugh at the speculation there's some seekrit conspiracy to keep people out since that would require a wide scale organized effort, and getting fandom organized to do something productive is like herding cats. Can you imagine how difficult it would be to organize them to do something they thought was destructive or hurtful? ;)

No, be fair, that would be much easier.

Hee! I don't think it would be easier. I just think it would be more tempting. ;P

Often with awards in general, we're talking about very little separating the final nomination list from a lot of other possible contenders. That'll be true with the final results I'm sure. And most rounds the sshg_awards posts all stories nominated that round--it's a much longer list than the ballot list.

It's not a conspiracy, but often in any awards there is a pattern to who gets nominated/wins that frankly has to do with who supports the awards. Here's the irony. I'm positive in my heart of hearts that many a person yelling conspiracy did not nominate. Did not encourage their friends to nominate. Did not pimp the awards in general. So if faction A is more represented than faction B, well there's a reason (Besides quality, although frankly the louder the whine, the more I suspect quality as a factor in an author not placing. Good authors don't tend to have a sense of entitlement--they tend to be self-critical, and I tend to think that's exactly what separates them from the bad.)
