Cooper. Is. Very. Amused.

Fascinating. When this story was called to my attention due to the fact that one of my readers stated that it has some similarities to my story "Appetite for Enigma," I was only too eager to track this down. I am, by far, and currently (without any other emotion to express)..."fascinated."

Is this flattery directed at me or am I being self-centered ( Read more... )

Wow, the sheer audacity that someone would directly lift precious quotes from your fantastic original story! I've decided to take a look myself, and I'm just...appalled. It's even worse that this person has your story on their favorites. Really now, plagiarism is just the worst. Now, I would understand if she was inspired by some of the concepts, like 'mental orgasm' and uniquely employed that term in her own stories in her own words (I'm quite partial to the concept of 'mental orgasm' myself), but simply copying and pasting whole text from your story is just a no-no.

Sorry to hear you're going through such trouble =/

To be honest, when it was called to my attention by this reader who also read that story and reviewed it, she claimed to have recognized many similiarities. So I easily tracked it down due to FFNet's reliable search engine and my discomfort I skimmed because I don't want to feel like I'm making a big deal out of this and accuse someone. But since you've read it, do you think she has intentionally ripped me off or something?

This fraughts me. But this is my response to her when she replied to my review (I posted her side on my comment to Nana-san below):

I take much appreciation for the respect and honesty, dearest. It is only one ( ... )

Hm...well, it seemed like the most they did was copy and paste whole dialogue from your scenes (including the card game scenario) and probably revised it a bit to make it better fit into their own story, but otherwise, most of your original work was pretty much intact. At least she was honest, I suppose - though hopefully when she re-writes this story, she will actually use her own creativity rather than taking someone's ideas whole-cloth. However, I have to give her credit for attempting to re-write the thing; yet I still say you keep tabs on the story, just to make sure.

I guess that's fairly reasonable. I don't want this to distract me from the fact that I'm struggling to write some coherenct material right now in FFNet since my DN obsession seems to be calmer these days so inspiration hardly comes. But I will be finishing the next chapter for AFE within two weeks from now (I have exams this coming week.) Besides, I think she was inspired with my work and that says enough for me. I appreciate the flattery. I just don't like to get vindictive but yeah, I'll keep looking out for this story, see if she's keeping her word.

Wow, really? To tell the truth, I'm not surprised--it's your most popular story, it appears to be abandoned, and it was really unique and interesting. Unfortunately, some people care more about getting recognized than they do about actually producing something worthwhile for themselves. It is flattery, yes--they liked your idea enough to steal it--but it's still stealing, and you don't need to put up with that.

And yes, you should return to the DN fandom. You're missed here. ♥

Do you really think so? Interestingly enough she returned my correspondence and I do not have an idea what to do about it. I claimed to appreciate her response but then again it's pretty much hard to reconcile this because I just skimmed the chapter one and felt like it was AFE in a different caliber of writing or am I imagining this? Have you read it...or just some bits of paragraphs because I really don't want to make this into a big thing though but soul_of_raziel above thinks that the author has lifted some of my ideas and practically just changed some to make it her own.

Here is her response:

Well, I wasn't able to really read it--she'd taken it down by the time I clicked the link. My advice, if you think she did copy something, is to ask for credit for the inspiration, and any specific lines she took, if she plans on keeping her work that way. I can't say whether I think she is stealing anything, since I missed the window to read her story, but I'm sure you do deserve some credit here.
