Cooper. Is. Very. Amused.

Fascinating. When this story was called to my attention due to the fact that one of my readers stated that it has some similarities to my story "Appetite for Enigma," I was only too eager to track this down. I am, by far, and currently (without any other emotion to express)..."fascinated."

Is this flattery directed at me or am I being self-centered ( Read more... )

Do you really think so? Interestingly enough she returned my correspondence and I do not have an idea what to do about it. I claimed to appreciate her response but then again it's pretty much hard to reconcile this because I just skimmed the chapter one and felt like it was AFE in a different caliber of writing or am I imagining this? Have you read it...or just some bits of paragraphs because I really don't want to make this into a big thing though but soul_of_raziel above thinks that the author has lifted some of my ideas and practically just changed some to make it her own.

Here is her response:

Writer Crafter Prevails,

I'd like to thank you for reviewing my story, I respect and appreciate
everyone who takes the time to pass along a comment or constructive criticism.
I'd also like to thank you for subscribing to me.

However, I have no intention of plagiarizing your story 'Appetite for
Enigma.' 'The Dawn' was created on a whim in which a friend of mine had
challenged me to explain how a conversation between L and myself would ensue.
On that note, I myself am a very openly honest and blunt person, so I'll give
my openly honest and blunt response.

After I had accepted the challenge of creating how a conversation would
unfold between L and I, I quite literally stared at my computer screen
dumbfounded as to what exactly I was going to do. During an MSN conversation I
was directed too your previously mentioned fan fiction at around 3 AM and just
began throwing things together influenced greatly on the first segment of
'Appetite For Enigma'.

Therein, I can see how certain references to your work can thoroughly make
you want to hit my face, which is understandable. I've actually gotten an idea
of what I want to do with 'The Dawn' now, which means I'll be following up on
my own ideas and revising my first segment to a more suitable adage to create
an actual story.

On a final note, 'The Dawn' is not in any way heading in the same direction
as your own story, which for the sake of argument, I went and took the time to
read other chapters before replying to you. Though the references to your
imaginative piece of fiction were a bit much, to be honest. I'm quite sorry to
have put you through the terror of wondering whether your story was going to
be re-produced entirely or just outright plagiarized. I am truly sorry, I've
had a similar experience with a piece of original fiction I did awhile back.

So thank you again for subscribing and taking the time to review some early
and quite badly written first drafts of 'The Dawn'. I do take every review I
receive quite seriously.

Cheers,
Siobhan

Well, I wasn't able to really read it--she'd taken it down by the time I clicked the link. My advice, if you think she did copy something, is to ask for credit for the inspiration, and any specific lines she took, if she plans on keeping her work that way. I can't say whether I think she is stealing anything, since I missed the window to read her story, but I'm sure you do deserve some credit here.

I saw the link in your entry, but she's put up a note--said that she was reworking it. The story isn't up at the moment. Thanks though!

I really do appreciate it if you can read it and tell me your opinions. Mine might be biased since it is my AFE being said to be plagiarized (allegedly, of course).

Do you understand what I said? It's not there to be read. She took it down. If you saved it, I'll be happy to read it, but as is I can't really do that, since it isn't there. Sorry. D:

Huh? But...*still looking at the icon, very distracted* I checked it out...it was there...But I'll see if I can post it here..(I think I have the right to do that. And we could examine it together since you've read AFE chapter one)

Maybe since you already saw it, your browser saved it? I don't know, when I click on it she says she took it down for revision. Yeah, I'll definitely read it if you post it here, and you do have that right, I think.

XD; Go right ahead and poke the baby. It's...Hikari, from Digimon. One of my first fandoms.
