You have said everything that could be said about this chapter. <3
Ryuuken confuses me. At times it seems like he doesn't want Ichigo to be close with Uryuu, yet in some moments (like in this chapter) it's almost like he's saying: "I know you two love like each other, so why don't the both of you just sit down and talk?" Talk about mixed signals...
I'm still hanging on to the Isshin-is-with-Ryuuken theory. Just because he doesn't appear doesn't mean he's not somewhere in the hospital (or Ryuuken's office).
Ichigo's face looks like Uryuu went into labor with their first born child while he was at work or something. <---This is where Rin choke on her tea and sprayed it all over her room.
I was going to say something else about Ichi and his delicious angst, but your awesome analysis (and this chapter) broke my brain a little bit. Here, I'll leave some random keysmash while my brain recovers. ASDJF;KLJG <3 <3 <3
Ryuuken's behavior here is definitely altered from all of the other appearances he's made in the manga, so I can't tell if mixed signals is just his game, or if Uryuu running off with Ichigo that time destroyed his last delusions of being able to force them apart. Here, I couldn't tell if he was genuinely urging them to spend a moment alone because he knew it was best for Uryuu or because he knew him suggesting it would enrage his son...maybe both.
I hope that's the case, too...or, at least that Isshin was at the hospital and Ryuuken knows where he is now.
Mwahahaha, sorry! XD
I wanted to send write an appropriately long comment about how much I loved reading this comment, but my brain is still waking up, so I, too, shall default to a keysmash--a keysmash of affection. ASFSDFJLJKWRE &hearts :3
Same here; a physician background is typical for chiefs of staff and hospital directors, though sometimes they have different focuses than general surgery. I knew Ryuuken was a physician because I've always believed that's how he met Isshin--that they were in medical school together. XD I had always reasoned that Ryuuken was a surgeon as well given the emphasis on skilled hands amongst the Quincy, but as you said, nice to have it confirmed

Oh, I think it was definitely great! Orihime was only a bit sad (though not at all one subdued once it came to Ichigo... Orihime: "See you tomorrow at school, Kurosaki-kuuuuun!" Ryuken: "Stop yelling in my hospital any anyway, this is my son's boyfriend!"), poor Chad buried somewhere (under a pile of work, that is!) and Ichigo is the only one yelling and shaking and nearly crying. Poor lamb.
You know, what gives me hope that Uryuu is yet to have his big moment in this arc, is the way he reacted to everything. That evident hurt pride and shame and the fact that he was so disfunctional when it came to his friends (and Ichigo!). Especially that mummy tragical face close-up behind the curtain when Ichigo yells "You were beaten... etc." We don't see Uryuu's face directly but the suffering is palpable. He is going to go through some character development now, I'm betting my only winter shoes on this. And hopefully, daddy is going to tag along...
Yeah, she was pretty much only mildly concerned at best--not something I'd consider even on par for a regular friend. *snarks* She's unconsciously drawing away because Uryuu always steals her chance to be with Ichigo.Ryuuken: My son's boyfriend needs to go have an alleyway crisis; shut your mouth, twat

Somebody: Hey, can't you be a bit kinder to Ishida? Some fatherly affection? Ryuuken: But I am pretty kind to him! Somebody: Look at his red face! That's because he's so mad at you! Ryuuken: Well, he has a low blood pressure and now he's even anemic because of the blood loss. He should be thankful that I am trying to rise his blood pressure through angering and agitating him! Somebod: Eee...
Hahahahaha, too true! XD Thank you so much for providing the translation--I loved it. :D
I ran into something along those lines with the author speaking about Ryuuken treating his son, though the translation was from one of the online translators which always creates rudimentary, mismatched, and kind of hilarious translations--where you have to then work to decipher the sentences. *laughs* I did understand the part where they were musing on Uryuu envying Ichigo's ability to stay warm in the winter and brooding about this...which Kurosaki then calls him on "Are you jealous?"--and then either Uryuu or Ichigo, couldn't tell which from the choppy trans, wraps their arm around the others' belly and presses close to warm up (if it's someone curling an arm around and huddling up close, it's probably Uryuu, but if it's slinging an arm around a midsection and pulling someone close, that sounds like Ichi). XD
Haha, I'm not sure what's going on...it could also be that Uryuu is wrapping his arms around his own belly because he's cold because I remember that it blankets on a lap. I just don't know. XD
Oh awesome! Let me dig it back up! I think I have the text saved somewhere. :D

I know this is absolutely late and everything. But I've delurked, and I've been reading this, and I just wanted to say that this analysis is awesome. Amazing job, so nice to read!
I don't mind late comments at all--in fact, I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoyed it enough to comment! :D
Thank you very much for reading, and I'm happy to hear that you loved reading my IchiUri ramblings. I'm sure there will be plenty more analysis posts in the future as they are one of my all-time favorite couples across any of my fandoms, haha. :)
If you'd like, I'll drop you a line to let you know the next time there's an IchiUri post since my ramblings tend to ramble far and wide (read: all over the place. This week = Newsies, Castle, & The Onion). :D
