HT100 Flashfiction Challenge #7: Lit Up - Fast Lane

Aug 31, 2004 21:04

Um, the bones of this flashfic were contained in a little orphaned snippet I posted to my LJ over a year ago. Then this lovely challenge came up and I said to myself: Ah! My little orphan finds a home! So I worked on it a little more, and, well, here we go. Many thanks to actizera and maverick4oz for speedy, spiffy beta and advice. *g*

They just mainlined each other for oblivion now, didn’t they?

Yeah, see, that works. That's how it should have gone.

*sigh*

I love this and am very glad your orphan found a home.

Fantastic!

I particularly loved this description: Toby waved a hand at the common room, at the glazed-eyed inmates staring at the television, Alvarez slumped asleep in his chair, Rebadow and Busmalis playing cards in slow motion. It is SUCH an image of how dull life in Oz can be, such a contrast to Chris' free wheeling lifestyle.

And also Toby knew that was kind of a bullshit deflection, and it shouldn’t have pleased him so much to hear. But it did. So Beecher!

Hee. Thanks, A. Yeah, I'd always been fond of this snippet, so I was glad I was able to rework it for the challenge. Glad you liked it! :-)

Woohoo! The final posting of this fantastic little vignette has been a long time coming! *g* As I've already gushed to you, this is just a perfect example of what flashfic is meant to be, IMO. I love love LOVE it! :-D

Hee! I know! Well, this is why I never throw anything away, LOL -- you never know what might be resurrected (or at least cannibalized for parts!) And thanks, your enthusiasm definitely helped me to get this over the line. :-)

Well I said it before, but I'll say it again. This feels so much like a scene from the show, but what really *gets* me is the subtle undertone the resonates from season six Keller. We know what happens when he gets bored, so this little scene packs an even more poignant punch. Excellent job. Thank you.

Thanks, Mav. And yeah, that K-boy is a ticking time bomb. :-( I guess I've just gotten used to living in the past where that's concerned. ::sniff::

Wonderful! I love it all, especially the ending -- "mainlining each other" ... "It was always going to be something." Oh, these boys and there addictions. Tsk, tsk. We love it!
