Metal Gear Primer

Couple things. First, I play Big Boss from Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. This was an old game for the MSX, which was only released in Japan and Europe(even harder to find those copies). Later, it was emulated and translated by fans, for those of us who fail at Japanese. Still later, Konami was nice enough update the graphics(HA!) and do their own translation of both Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Both of these were released on the second disk of Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. I recommend the versions released with Subsistence myself but the fan translated MSX versions are also worth a look over if you're an overly obsessive fan. The MSX versions are also easier to find emulated, if you are so inclined to play and curse the name Hideo Kojima.

The following is a list of material those unfamiliar with the games can look over. That is, if you want some idea what I'm talking about. But believe me when I say, even after you play the games, the canon is still confusing as hell. I also keep this list as something I can refer to when I don't have time to replay the games. Anyway, enough of that.

As for Big Boss' early years, I don't need a resource list. It takes me less than a day to run through them(What? I'm not obsessed!). If you want a quick overview of them, I suggest wikis or youtube. Those games are:
Metal Gear Solid 3 for PS2
Metal Gear Portable Ops for PSP
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for PSP(Only demo released as of this date. Fun demo though.)

And if you are interested further, I suggest you play them. They are very fun even if you suck at video games. Hilariously, I'm great at the newer games but fail amazingly at MG and MG2. I can finish them, it just takes me longer due to fail.
