So, I've got an in-between job right now, and they're paying me more than the other two girls they hired at the time same time for my experience. I can live with this for a little while, while I turn myself into a real adult and start achieving things and figuring what to do with my life ( Read more... )

What job did you get?

Thanks!

I got a retail job. In-Stock team member at Target. For now it will do. Even if for now only means thru Christmas.

By the way I got you some books! I got you one Nora Roberts and two J.D. Robbs (one of those J.D. Robbs has three stories in it) and one Robert B. Parker because I thought you'd like his Spencer For Hire series.

It could turn into something permanent after Christmas. But, even so, at least it's money in your pocket for now. Congrats!

Awesome! Thanks so much!

Yeah, I'm sure I can work there as long as I'd like but I'm trying hard to at least get a job that makes more money. But some is better than none!

You're welcome! I'm probably going to go back one more time before I mail them so if there's any other authors you want me to look for let me now! Otherwise I need your address! DM it if you feel more comfortable! Or email, I guess!

And then I looked at a Post Secret book so to see what kind of problems might be solved there but most of those people really just need a therapist.

Heh.

Job-hunting is brutal and the single most effective self-esteem crusher I have run into ever during the course of my life. But I really like the idea of dedicating part of your time to volunteering to give life some kind of meaning amongst all the rejection letters, you know? Especially if by volunterring you mean "giving out free cheese and crackers." Heh.

Are you still in LA?

Ha, yeah.

No, I'm back in Towson. There's a lot more jobs here in general - I've almost had as many interviews here in just the past few weeks since I've been home than I did the year I was in LA. Life is weird.

Hey, if there's anything I've learned from you it's that there is nothing like munching on cheese, crackers, and fruit with your friends while trying to guess the Hitchcock movie written on the card taped to your back.

And it was lesson I hope you plan to pass along to your children and your children's children. ;)

That's strange, who knew Towson would be a hotbed of employment? That's great news for you, though, hopefully something good will pan out for you in the near future there. What did you get your undergrad degree in again? (I'm all about the networking these days, maybe I know someone in the field?)

I will. It will be your legacy.

Ha, compared to Los Angeles, the North Pole is a hotbed of employment. My degree is in communications/media. Yeah. I know. But networking is great and I suck at it so you may have a point!

Congrats on getting a job! (Even if it is temporary, at least it's money coming in, instead of only going out!)

And I like the idea of using part of your job search time to do something meaningful. Have you thought about volunteering for an existing charity or community effort? If you like the Book Thing (and who wouldn't? Book Thing is AWESOME), I'm pretty sure anyone can volunteer to help sort books. It might give you some more ideas, or inspiration for how to get your own project off the ground! :)

Thanks! It's good for me to be working at least and doing things.

I have thought about volunteering! In fact I meant to get over there today because Wednesday is volunteer day (I think they also have people stamp the "not for resale" on the books too) but I didn't get a chance. But you make excellent, inspiring points!
