DO NOT MOVE TO 210-230 OAK ST APARTMENTS IN TORONTO

Sep 20, 2010 17:07

apparently i already come up when people search 230 oak, so let me put this as a public advisory. they show a complete and utter disregard for animal life. my 5 month old kittens almost died because they soaked them in roach spray after "forgetting to tell me" that the cats shouldn't be there this time while they sprayed. i asked why then they ( Read more... )

hey, thanks so much for the info!! theyèll definitely all be finding out (weère waiting to file the actual lawsuit until iève moved out nov 1)

ièm actually calling the cops on them at 515 (deadline i gave them) because someone came into my apartment without notice or permission today. i told them if they wonèt tell me who and who gave permission for it, that ièd be reporting a break and enter.
(i found my cats locked in the bathroom, a door which is always all the way open and which i do not close, and which has NEVER ONCE closed by itself. the notice that in future they would be entering my apartment to show it was also further in my door than is possible without opening it)
ièm shaking ièm so angry
especially because they wonèt admit it

230 oak street to avoid at all cost? anonymous March 20 2011, 19:20:07 UTC
Hi! Not too sure if anyone will check this entry, but would appreciate any reply.

I'm actually looking into renting a 2 bedroom apartment in Riverdale neighbourhood.

I thought $850 plus heat for a 2 bedroom apartment at 230 Oak Street looks reasonable, until I saw your review about the place.

Are the bug problem really that serious?
Why are there people still living in that building?

Or are the bugs problem occuring only in some units?

I'm currently studying in UT, and the rental for downtown apartment for 2 bedrooms are pretty steep! Hence, looking at Oak Street...

But if it's really that horrible, guess I'd have to continue searching... :(

Hi there,

I would DEFINITELY stay away. My bug problem was incredibly awful. By the end, I would think there was a clump of fabric on the ground and it would turn out to be a swarm of roaches. They also would not respond to my phone calls (I would have to get my mother to call, at which point they'd finally call back), so getting repairs and sprayings done was very difficult.

Best of luck!

Thanks for your quick reply.

Will take your advice and avoid renting at that place!

I'm glad that you've shared your experience, so others might not end up in that situation. I've checked the Bed Bugs Registry on internet and 230 Oak Street receives many bad reviews as well.

Thanks again! :D

i had to stay in a temporary place for 1 month because they have to renovation.
first night in my new apartment a complete nightmare: closet door not fixed, shower pool oxides, BEDBUG, Cockroaches, housefly.
If I have knew best I would never moved to that place, but here I'am with a 1 year least.

I guess my apt is a rarity...? anonymous June 29 2011, 17:52:26 UTC
Hmm. I don't doubt that some suites have bug problems, or maintenance issues. However, I have only had a slight bug problem once (only roaches), and that was when my (former) roommate decided to leave food scraps everywhere in the kitchen and stash dirty dishes in a plastic bag in her closet (don't ask me why). Once she was gone, they sprayed, and it's been fine. Every six months I call for a spraying, just in case, and within a week I have someone show up (I am notified by phone, as I request of them). I am mid-twenties also (female, even), and have never had an issue with the management or the super or the staff. I have been here almost two years. My suite was in top shape when I moved in, except for two minor issues, which, when I called, I was told they would be fixed the next day. They were fixed the next day before noon. The only complaint I would have, is that every few months, when they clean the roof, there is a strong rotten egg smell for a couple of hours - this is because the rotting stuff on the roof is being disturbed as ( ... )

i'm glad to hear about your good experience! i am an extremely clean person, and was extra diligent because of the bugs, but still they swarmed.

what i do want to make sure to highlight is that it was in fact renny, the building's main maintenance guy, who did the spraying and who directly sprayed my cat (and subjected my other cat to extreme doses of the spray). it was not a company representative who did the spraying. and it was the super himself who was so resistant to helping us and who provided a fake chemical name, not the company.

hopefully others have better experiences, but i would definitely NOT recommend moving into this place, and to the person who commented, i urge you to not allow any sprayings or entry into your apartment while your cats are there if you are not, as they showed a complete disregard/lack of concern for animal life, and i wouldn't want anyone to ever have to experience the traumatic image and situation that i came home to.

Same for me as well. I have never had an issue and I have been here for 8 years.
