Some thoughts...moosea1October 1 2009, 11:24:29 UTC
Booster seats are WAY less safe than car seats. They just have so much more freedom to move. We put Devon in a booster seat much too early. I recommend keeping him in a car seat as long as he fits and/or as long as you both can stand it.
Dick and Jane books are miserable, unless you have a little one actually trying to read it. Unlike most kid books, I hate reading any of the primers. I tolerate it now since he's learning to read on his own, but I can't wait to get away from them.

*nods* They look less safe. I know the car seat SAM is in now goes up to 100 pounds, too, so after looking into it a bit, I think the plan will be to keep SAM in his current seat until the baby outgrows the infant seat, then we'll see how big SAM is and decide what to get. So I guess I can cross that off the list. :)
Heh, I would not have bought a Dick and Jane book for him myself, but I find it hilarious in a slightly horrific way. We'll see what SAM thinks about it.

D would have had an absolute fit if she had seen you considering a booster seat yet. While some are better than others, none are really as good as just getting a carseat with a higher weight/height allowance. Another point we have found is that carseats have expiration dates, after which the manufacturer no longer warranties that the foam lining will hold up in an accident. D knows more about that as well.
I'd second the stay in the car seat opinion. I addition to being safer, they are also a lot easier for kids to fall asleep in on long car trips. Sadly, our seat only goes up to 40 lb (which DAT is at), and DAT's head is sticking too far over the top so we are going to switch soon. Most boosters are for 35-40lbs and over 42 inches high (at least the ones we saw).

Hmm, expiration dates... Phooey, that's an expensive item to have it go bad. :P
