Struggling For A Good Thing

They Summer Reading Club starts on Saturday, and our online system still shows last year's artwork and programs.  We paid the software providers a hefty chunk of change to set it up for us, and they insist that everything looks fine on their side, they have no idea what the problem could be, but just for us, they'll call in a repair ticket.  Swell ( Read more... )

My good thing: we just adopted two completely adorable 4-month-old puppies. (Not-so-good thing: they are currently howling in the kitchen because no one is giving them the attention they think they deserve... no, wait, blessed silence. They must have accepted their fate.)

After we bumped into each other on Kit's blog, I thought of you when I read the NYT review of Christian Wiman's new memoir, My Bright Abyss. Caveat, I haven't read the book itself. But in case you haven't seen the reviews, here's the bit that reminded me of you and of that conversation ( ... )

Amaryllis, I haven't been on LJ for a few weeks due to... well, STUFF, but this definitely counts as one of the Best Things of the Week. The Wiman book sounds like something I would LOVE, and I have just ordered myself a copy. THANK YOU!

And yes, I admit to a great fondness for Tamora Pierce. It doesn't hurt that her books quite literally saved hapaxdaughter's life (in both of our opinions).

I just saw this, and you're welcome! I'm looking forward to reading that book too, although the to-be-read list isn't getting any shorter.
