Struggling For A Good Thing

May 30, 2013 19:47

They Summer Reading Club starts on Saturday, and our online system still shows last year's artwork and programs.  We paid the software providers a hefty chunk of change to set it up for us, and they insist that everything looks fine on their side, they have no idea what the problem could be, but just for us, they'll call in a repair ticket.  Swell.  See you in August, guys.

It has been sunny and beautiful all week while I've been working.  Now that I have tomorrow off,  it's pouring rain, it will be pouring rain all day tomorrow, and we're under a tornado watch.  Naturally, the dog wants to go out now.

My spouse is incommunicado in the wastes of Kenya.  My daughter is incommunicado on the beaches of Greece.

I'm tired.  My feet hurt.  My  hands hurt.  My EVERYTHING hurts.

But I'm not doing this anymore, am I?

So here is a Good Thing:

When I came home tonight, my lovely son had just made me a pot of tea (Yunnan Noir, one of my favorites, from Adagio Teas).  He agreed that it was just too depressing a night to cook, so we tossed some sausage links in a frying pan, opened a jar of applesauce, and cracked a tube of biscuits (don't judge me, I keep them around for emergencies, and in my executive opinion, this certainly qualifies).

So I have consumed about a million billion calories of comfort food, and I have my feet up on the coffee table, and I'm about to re-read Stephanie Perkins' LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR for the fourth time.

And splendid son is washing the dishes.

So, all in all, a VERY Good Thing.

we *can* have nice things, abou
