R2 & KC visited the cemetery today. To no one's surprise, it was very active. It seemed like the majority of folks were hispanic. One group seemed to be having a major picnic. Besides placing some flowers taken from SMR's garden, we strolled around the undeveloped area to the south.

In the last couple weeks I'd recieved 12 cards from Marion Medical Missions, such as the one below, telling that donations made in Shirley's memory had been used to install a shallow well in this or that village and telling how many people would be served by that well. At the beginning of last week the numbers served totaled 1300. Then a 13th card ( Read more... )

The most recent promise I'd had from the cemetery as to the placing of SMR's headstone was 3 Dec 2007. It was no big surprize to me that they hadn't called even by 7 Dec, so I thought I'd bug them a bit. I identified myself and their guy (Alan Ducker)said, "That's a special granite. This weekend R2 went to Tweedy. One reason was to attend the annual Fish Fry. Another was to place the permanent stone marker dedicating the diadora tree for Shirley. In place of the paper printout which was taped to the stone on the Memorial Day weekend when we had the Tweedy memorial service for Shirley there is now a sheet of aluminum attached ( Read more... )

This is Roger reporting: Yesterday I went to the openning reception at Studio Channel Islands of an art exhibit by Women Painters West -WPW. I had been invited to see the presentation of the "Shirley Ransom Memorial Award". It's worth $250.
