Preston is about to say something amused like 'I've been afraid to give the scrawny blonde chick lip from day one', and then realizes just in time that that could be potentially misconstrued.

"Totally awesome," he says, instead. "Just watch out - rumors spread fast around here. Before you know it you'll be six feet tall, dressed in the skin of wolf-puppies, and stuck with a handle like The Axe."

"...Now, see, we've talked about the general undesireability of puppy-based clothing before. I'm sure I'll be able to do better than that."

[bass_line_blues]

"I thought it was a clever referent to a previous conversation," Preston protests.

"All right, how's wearing a necklace of vampire molars strung around your neck?"

[k_gabriel]

Karla considers this. "Only if the vamps they belonged to aren't gonna come looking for 'em."

Karla does not want to attract vampires to her neck.

". . . dude, holding down a living vampire and removing their teeth is, like, twenty times more badass than taking the teeth of a dead one," Preston says - and then, hastily, "and not something I recommend. Unless you're a dentist. Actually, we could probably use a dentist around here."

"Damn, there go my plans for the weekend," Karla says, smirking.

"--And, yeah, we really could. I haven't seen anyone approaching, like, pirate levels of tooth decay yet, but still."

[bass_line_blues]

"I would say pretty soon we'll all be able to fell zombies with our breath alone, but I feel like however bad it gets, the zombies are bound to be worse. Which is reassuring in a way, I guess."

Preston glances at her.

Light: "So how broken up are you over the loss of your weekend plans?"

Karla glances back at him.

"I'll survive, I think. And no doubt find something else fun to do, like play guitar and not get eaten by zombies."

[bass_line_blues]

"All useful occupations," Preston agrees.

"I was just thinking - been a while since we had a chance to practice. What with all the Cops! Post-Apocalypse! stuff."

[k_gabriel]

Karla smirks a little at the Cops reference, and nods.

"Yeah, it kinda has. Seems like a long time since I saw Shay around, too, but puppies'll do that, I guess."

[bass_line_blues]

"Yeah - I should drop by sometime, I promised her to babysit. But anyways - I have kind of a feeling I'll be stuck here most of the time anyways, until things get hashed out, so -"

He glances over into the corner where his bass is.

Karla follows the glance, and nods again.

"Worse ways to pass the time. Want to get some practice in now, or is there still a lot of news-spreading to do?"

Preston hesitates, and then says, with visible reluctance, "Claire and Russ should be showing up sometime - I should probably be paying a little attention in case they do."

Karla slides off the table and stands, smiling a little.

"Probably. Well, y'know. I'll be around."

"Yeah," Preston says, and hesitates.

"And - I don't have to tell you to be careful either. But. Saying it anyways."
