Gwen is ... in the Wasteland.

Yes.

And it is a perfectly normal night.

... Except for the part where Salla kissed her.

That. Uh.

That was unexpected.

Vanessa is oblivious to anything unusual. She is reporting for work, and by working she means socializing while occasionally serving drinks.

Proof of Vanessa's evolution: the idea that she and Preston share a brain is actually flattering.

:D!

"The world needs more fun, anyway. Not that here isn't fun now, but it's casual. Not in your face. You have to find it."

Vanessa may have had a point there, but she lost it in translation.

Gwen does not look defensive.

"What do you have to find except the actual location?"

"I didn't mean anything bad! I'm just talking about different kinds of fun, not about how the Wasteland isn't fun enough. You know?"

Vanessa really, really hopes Gwen does.

"And ... some kinds are the kinds only achieved through plastic flamingos and karaoke?"

Well, she looks a little more understanding than before.

Vanessa beams. "Exactly!"

She sees no need to explain anything more.

Gwen does not facepalm.

"Glad we got that cleared up, then."

"So'm I!"

And Vanessa is off on her merry way, to serve patrons.

And Armand is watching Vanessa, brown eyes curious.

"New, sweetheart?" he calls out to her once she's close enough.

Vanessa pauses, unsure of how to take that. Old life says: Guy talking to you, calling you sweetheart! Yay! Just make sure he's not a pathetic loser from the Math Club.

New life says: Could easily be some creep, and there isn't exactly a police force anymore.

Logic says: Gwen could so kick that guy's ass.

Professionally, Vanessa asks, "Not new, just don't have a regular schedule. Want anything?"

"If you have any soda, sure." A quick grin. "I don't drink."

Vanessa puts on her Embarrassed Face.

"I'm... not quite sure if we do, but I can check? Any preference?"

Yes, she is doing the typical teen girl "Turn every sentence into a question" thing. It happens when she's feeling unsure.

"I'm easy. Also, Armand, one of Russ's wolves. You?"

"Vanessa, one of Gwen's minions." She probably picked up that phrasing from Preston, though she doesn't realize it. "And most definitely not easy. I'll see about that drink."

Trying not to giggle, she walks away. Her flirtation skills were getting rusty! Also, if he's one of Russ', he must be all right.

He grins at her again, tips a hat and watches her go.

And Vanessa returns, bearing a can of Coke and a can of Pepsi. She fixes Armand with a solemn gaze.

"You want the red pill or the blue one?"

Normally she'd never use the movie reference (even though it was a cool flick)--too geeky. But The Wasteland seems to attract a lot of that type.
