Look at me! Reading and all!

14. Emily Tesh, Silver in the Wood -- this was a charming novella from an author whose fic I like. I liked it a lot. It is ~Victorian-ish m/m, but the pairing/leads dynamic is not in the top 3 of the things I liked about it, probably not even in the top 5. When I read Silver in the Woods I felt a bit...underwhelmed but I blame that partly on the fact that a few friends of mine really loved the book and did not stop talking about how amazing it was and in the end...I found it nice. I too enjoy some good old forest fuckery and the mom was great but I guess my expectations were very high after all that noise (also...I did read it expecting a straight-up romance which imho it isn't). I'm still curious about the sequel.

Yeah, as a romance I found it pretty underwhelming, in the sense that I don't think it's a romance at all, and if I'd wanted romance out of it, I would've been disappointed. (Also, while I did hear from people who read it and loved it, it was people whose opinion I take with a grain of salt, while K's reaction was much more measured and so didn't set up any overly high expectations, so I was in fact pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it.

Google tells me that the author who broke his Hugo, was Larry Niven story on GRRM's lj

I guess with it being virtual, there wasn't any easy way to somehow signal to GRRM to wrap it up and present the damn award already! :D I am now visualizing all the CoNZealand people freaking out and wringing their hands as they listen to Martin ramble on...
