This whole cross-posting thing is a pain! It isn't needed or wanted... the poll shows that pretty clearly. There is absolutely no overlap in my friends lists for Live Journal & Facebook. I use Facebook for games (which would bore anyone on my flist here silly!), and secondarily - using a separate friends list - for keeping track of what's going on with family. Hopefully the powers that be here at LiveJournal will show some common sense and rethink/remove this!
Character meme: Yup, Death would certainly be high on my list too along with Dementors.

I'm definitely hoping for that, too! They've been pretty good about addressing concerns during the last couple of cockups (like the inactive journals/comms thing awhile back), but the fact that it's been almost three days with no change or any kind of substantiative response is making it harder to be optimistic.
I mean, regardless, I'm not going anywhere, as I don't think anybody on my flist who has any kind of connection to me on Facebook is at all likely to ever use this feature, especially by accident... but it's still a stupid feature that oughtn't be outside of the journal owner's control.

but the revelation of Ganelon's identity in Hand of Oberon kind of blew my mind Me too me too. Did you see twofaced!Brand coming? Because I didn't. Though I never thought Fiona was the culprit, bc it seemed too obvious. She was, arguably, part of the cabal, but hmmmm. Oh and I never suspected about Dara while Corwin was wining and dining her. Also can we talk about the deal with Deirdre? Maybe I have my incest goggles on but was she supposed to be the love of COrwin's life or something? No, I can see that's all wrong, the whole structure of the Amber books is very heroic, very unromantic, and I always thought Deirdre's character was (a) vacuous and (b) superfluous. It irks me that Zelazny wrote her that way because he could have accomplished ... whatever it was he wanted to accomplish without bringing in such a pointless character.
There are quite a few shocking twists in Justine Larbalestier's Liar, too, but I won't spoil the book by elaborating. You're about eight posts too late for that. ;)
Hey, hey, let the record show those spoilers were clearly marked! ;P
Ganelon was just the one twist that blew my mind most thoroughly -- I never saw most of the other stuff coming, either. Never suspected Brand. Was even more blindsided by Bleys and Fiona -- two of my three favorite characters -- being part of the cabal. Never suspected Dara. Didn't guess Luke's identity. Didn't see Bleys or Caine coming back from the apparently dead. But the Ganelon revelation was the one that sent me thumbing back through the book looking to see if it did actually all hold together, and damn if it didn't!

But then, like, Julian is clearly into Fiona, too... although Corwin and Deirdre are full sibs rather than half-sibs like Fiona and Julian. And then there's Coral, who is Merlin and Luke
( ... )
This is true. However, I continue to resist liking either of them as characters because they smack too much of either feisty!temptress or warrior!princess to me (with a dash of petulant!adolescent and scheming!bitch in there). Not to say there's anything wrong with these tropes, because we draw on them all the time, but IMO Zelazny failed to impart any kind of three-dimensionality to his female characters - including the more compelling ones like Fiona and Dara.
Yep the revelation that Ganleon was Oberon was pretty shocking ;-)Rereading the series now, I totally pick up on all the foreshadowing for that, but when I first read the series, it made my head go "whoa"

Ooh, Dementors! That's another very good choice!
