24. Dave Duncan, Ill Met in the Arena -- this is a book I never would have picked up if I hadn't already enjoyed Duncan's King's Blades books. ( But I rather liked it! (SPOILERY) )
Aaaaah, I just finished Nation and I remembered that you reviewed it so I had to see what you wrote and I totally agree. So much love for this book. I'll just link to this instead of going through the bother of writing my own review because it'd be the same anyway. XD
I loooooved the Jane Austen and "feed you to their wives" quotes (and the other quotes you mentioned), Mau and Daphne were just adorable (so adorable) and awesome, together and separately. (Also much love for Daphne's "aaargh!" reactions). So adorable that I felt like the girl in the epilogue pretty much worded my reaction to their separation. XD
I thought the Grandmothers and Twinkle events were really touching (I LOLed at Daphne's "No, Twinkle would be a horrible name. Twinkle, NO."). Also major love for Daphne's dad and the way he stood up to his mother after his coronation. And I totally agree on Cox, man, what a villain.
:D Awesome that you loved this book -- not that I expected any different :D

Me too! And I thought it was pretty neat of Pratchett to include that in the epilogue, probably exactly for that purpose. XD
Yes, I was really touched by the Twinkle event -- it's that mix of poignant and hilarious that Pterry does better than anyone I've ever read. And Daphne's dad -- I really liked him, too, and his relationship with Daphne.
Daphne became one of my favorite female characters by Pterry. Behind Granny, but maybe ahead of Tiffany and Nanny Ogg, even. Ditto for Cox as a Pterry villain -- pretty much on par with Reacher Gilt and maybe only slightly behind Vorbis (*shudder*).
(commenting on Nation and Good Omens today, it occurred to me I need an all-purpose Pterry icon instead of just DW ones. To the icon repository!)
