If you didn't take her to an exotic vet or a vet who specializes in pocket pets, I would do that. I work at a vet clinic and although the vets I work with are great, they readily admit that I know more about hamsters than they do. They just don't see enough of them to know all of the possible hammy illnesses. I'm sorry I don't have anything more helpful for you, but good luck and I hope you get Yuki's problem fixed.
The place I took her to was, indeed, just a normal vet clinic. I'd been there once before with a different hamster, though, and both times the vets that saw my hamsters were very knowledgeable and even taught me a few things. You're right, though - I should definitely try to find an exotic vet in the area. I don't know why that never occurred to me. Thank you for the advice! I hope I can find an exotic vet around me... it was hard enough just finding a place that even knew what a dwarf hamster was. *sigh*
Once my sister had a hamster who bled from his anus and eventually had his rectum sticking out of his body, could no longer poop, and died of constipation. :( Hopefully this isn't w hat's happening to Yuki. I wouldn't think so though as it happened to Barney pretty quickly but it is something to keep an eye out for. Have you been checking her poops to see if she's pooping normally?
I really, really hope that isn't what's wrong with Yuki. I have been checking her poo, and it seems normal to me. Last night, they seemed a bit harder than normal, but that could just be me being paranoid or just a temporary thing because of something she ate. I'll check it again later tonight when she wakes up.
Oh man I hope Yuki is okay! Definitely look for an exotic vet. Dr. Hutchinson in Cranberry is fantastic with my guinea pigs and both Willow and Warrick so I hope you can find someone that good where you are!
See, if I'd been able to take Yuki on the plane home with me, I could have taken her there. I was actually hoping I'd be able to take her with me for that reason - I know there's a better chance of finding an exotic vet in Pittsburgh than there is in East Bumfuck Virginia. But nooooo. Hamsters aren't allowed on any US Airways plane. Jerks. *sigh*
Thanks, though. Hopefully I'll be able to find someone around here that can take a look at her. :)
