Hamsters do the freezing thing quite a lot - at least, mine does anyway. It normally happens if she's scared of something.

How old is Zippy? And how long have you had her for?

My hamster freezes all the time. Well, more accurately he just 'zones out'. Stares off into space and sometimes will not react even to waving your hand in front of him. But then eventually will snap back and start sniffing around and getting hyper.

Hurley just did this yesterday and it kind of weirded me out. I was holding him and he just got all still in my hand. I was petting him and he wasn't moving. His ears were still perky though so I figured he was all right. It was kind of nice actually. Usually he doesn't stand still long enough for me to really pet him. Maybe he's just getting more mellow in his old age.

my hamster does that when she's in heat. that could explain the swollen nono bits.

Snickers did it. I even open the door she was standing infront of. she was starring at me. Not moving. I got her a carrot, and she wasn't interested. I even touched her mouth with it and I could move her head with the carrot lol She still didn't budge ( ... )

I haven't seen a "period" yet with Lovey & she'll be 1 this Aug/Sept.
But there also hasn't been any "swelling" in that particular area either.
If the area is really starting to swell up down there (male hamsters pretty much drag their "stuff" on the ground behind them)
...Zippy may be getting... uhhhh...nads.
*snerk*
