Lil Henry (my latest addition") is doing well! He's so freaking cute, and he's active and seems happy. He eats everything I give him, runs on his wheel all night, sits on my and lets me pet him for long stretches of time and is basically just super cute ( Read more... )

That is an extremely adorable baby you have there! :-D

Honestly, I've never attempted to trim nails on a ham before...I've had vets do it, and they use regular human nail clippers. What you could try, though, is getting Henry something wooden to climb on to help file his nails. Like this or these? I've used both (right now, Pansi has the first one and Clinton has the second) and my hams have enjoyed them. And their nails haven't been as sharp.

I've trimmed my robos nails before. It works best if you have two people. I use one person to get the hamster to be held, kinda on their back, and I use the other person to trim their nails. I only cut the nails when they are starting to curl, and never cut too close to the skin. I use regular human finger nail clippers.

oh manz them teensy weensy toesies! I'd be too scared of hurting them if they moved or my hand slipped or something. I'd try filing the sharp tip off if I were you, with a little piece of fine sandpaper or a human nail file/buffer thingie.

I used to have to trim Bella's nails. I would just use my clippers but I was very careful to just clip a little, to get the sharp points off. The do have quicks, so you have to be careful of them.
