harriet is having a total freakout.
as you know shes been getting older and frailer. all she does is sleep, so i took out her wheel a while back and shes been pretty mellow. but tonight for some reason she is super manic!
i heard this THUMP and when i walked over i thought i saw her flying down from the top of the cage. i thought that cant be right so i stayed to watch and she kept running around pawing at all the sides of the cage. then she grabbed hold of the bars and climbed all the way to the top (of what is a two story condo cage!) but then she lost her grip and fell down! she landed in her nest on her back and i thought she was hurt cuz she struggled to flip herself back up. but she finally did and then ran and started climbing again, this time she fell on her food bowl.
i dont know what she wants! i took her out and gave her cuddles. i let her run around the apt, let her run in the playpen, tried giving her her wheel. i just dont know what she wants! but shes acting like she wants out frantically.
i dont want her to hurt herself!
i put the second level back in and put the plexiglas lining to weight it down so that if she does climb the sides she doesnt have as far to fall.
have you guys experienced this sort of crazy hyper hamster behavior all of a sudden? what does it mean? what should i do?
i gave her some toilet paper rolls to chew on and stuck them through the bars of the cage but shes still trying to get at the bars!
:(
do you think she could be smelling pringles and getting anxious because of that? pringles is in another cage on the other side of the room and ive kept them apart.
updates: omg now shes still climbing up and pushing the plexiglass with her nose and paws. i'm going to have to find something else to weight it down.
...
ok. i let her and pringles meet. i think she was smelling her and that was the problem. i separated the playpen into two squares so they could sniff each other through the bars but not actually touch/harm each other. harriet seemed really eager to go to pringles' side. they are now back in their respective cages. pringles is running on her wheel, harriet is still freaking out. sigh. i hope i didnt make it worse.
...and ok so i put the wheel in her cage and lo and behold she is running in it! she hasnt gone in her wheel in weeks! i dont know what gotten into her but its nice to see her active i guess...
sorry for the super rambly post!
