I was too - but I asked my vet about it. She is, of course, a small animal vet - but she also has kept quite a few hamsters over the years. She told me that old shredded mail (on white paper) was OK as long as the paper was allowed to sit for around two weeks. She papered her enclosures in the same way.
You know, I wasn't sure what I would name my next hamster, but I seriously peered into his cage at work and called him "Patrick" right off the bat. It was awesome. :)
That is how my hammie got her name. I picked her up and the name "Tora" just came to me. Incidentally, her coloring reminds me of a tiger, and 'tora' is Japanese for tiger... but I wasn't consciously aware of it at the time.
Four of my six rats' names came to me like that too.
Thanks for the advice! Tonight he seemed extremely happy to drink from his bottle with nothin' but water in it... but he was also willing to drink from his dropper on his own, too. I might put just a splash in his next bottle fill - but I'm still going to wait until he has fully solid poos before taking him off the dropper.

I did that for my hammies and they had no problems...
Later though, you might want to dilute the pedialyte more and more so that when he gets better, the transition back to plain water won't be so bad...
Patrick is so adorable! :D
Happy he's doing better!
