Awww Pickles, what a heart melter! I love the second to last picture with his colors, showing himself off and is that his teeny tail peaking through his fur at the bottom? I don't really have any suggestions other than I feed Pineapple a mix food with some seeds/veggies/dried apple/dried banana/occasional shredded meat or cheese/and rarely a teeny bit of tatter when she's being a super good girl.
Right now I have Patrick on the FD and chopped raw brussels sprouts (with BeneBac, of course) because that is what we feed at the store. I didn't want to shock his little system
( ... )
Pickles always used a corner where I folded up some TP especially for that purpose. He started urinating all over the inside of his little igloo and laying in it just before he died.
Patrick seems to like to urinate in a couple of spots.
I ended up running to Walmart and I found one of the storage containers that some of yall have used to make those rad habitats! I'm so excited; I'm poking holes in the lid tonight. I am worried, however, about the porous nature of the plastic. Are there certain cleansing rituals I need to observe to reduce the risk of illness?
I think others have answered your questions pretty well. But I did want to say that I'm glad you enjoyed my tutorial...I wrote it 2 years ago when a bunch of people on my f-list wanted to know more about hamsters.
If you are forced to feed a pellet then I would actually recommend Oxbow's Healthy Handfuls :D Oxbow is well known for their well balanced foods and even Petco has been trying to get them to sell in the stores
( ... )
This is EXACTLY the information I was looking for regarding hamster food. I can tell you the same sort of information about every dog kibble I come across but was utterly at a loss here. It looks like I have some local stores that sell Oxbow; I will get him some within the week and begin putting that in the bowl along with the FD to gently switch him over. :)
OT: I'm so jealous you have stores that sell Oxbow! I wish my town did but the only pet stores are the two "Main" chains and a mom and pop shop I refuse to shop in (the living area for the small animals is disgusting :( )
...well, the store search on the website mentioned quite a few, anyway. We'll see how reliable the search is. ;)
Yeah, I saw a store or two on the list that I will absolutely not go into. One of them sells puppies for Chrissakes. Puppies! The first (and only) time I went in there I had my dog with me; we walked in the door, I saw all of those sickly puppies, and we turned around and walked out.
