Poor little guy. =o( I agree, small animals don't belong in young children's hands.

Poor, poor hammie. T___T All I can say is that I am glad the child realizes that he shouldn't have another hamster. But what the hell is the father thinking, trying to get him another one?! D:

Yikes, I am still nervous that Petco might decide it'll cost too much to treat him and just put him down or something. :( Eyes or no eyes, I hope he does well. I can wait a couple weeks if necessary, thank you for keeping tabs on the poor little guy!

If I had the money I'd have the hamster airlifted to me...if only.

I adamantly told Petco, that if they ever decide they don't want to treat him because of the costs, to call me ASAP so I could.

Gosh, that mental image is making me sick.

What is with parents? Giving their 5 year old child a living thing? Really?

I have seen small kids who did fine with live animals because their parents taught them how to treat them. Then again, these were also larger animals for the most part, not tiny creatures the child could badly hurt, though I've seen kids interacting with kittens and doing just fine. That is just some crazy irresponsibility on the parents' part, and for the dad not to even care is mind boggling to me.

Guess it depends on the child and the amount of adult supervision. As I said below this, I had one at that age, but I had very vigilant parents who taught me to be responsible about it.

Just sad that the dad lets the kid hurt the poor thing and turns it back in without a thought to making it better. :-(

And what is he teaching him by returning it?
