Still Training Marshmallow....and new addition!

I think about a month ago I got Marshmallow. He's doing fine, He likes to run on his wheel, he eats his food, but he has an unhealthy obsession with chewing the bars of his cage, he's chewing the paint off the bars, and I'm kinda worried that might not be good for him ( Read more... )

thanks. i think the flash on my camera might be why it looks kinda brown, but it is kinda greyish black. (i felt kinda bad for leaving the flash on my camera, i thought it was off)

What color eyes does Marshmellow have? tjsvixen August 5 2008, 20:36:04 UTC
Does he have red eyes? Hamsters have notriously bad eyesight but hamsters with red eyes are often very blind and react to the slightest movement. I am not sure if it is the same in your situation just a suggestion.

Also at the pet store they sell something called bitter apple spray. Spray some on a cotton ball and rub it on the bars, it may or may not work. Depends on the hamster. If not you can get an aquarium for him to live in and if you keep an eye on the papers and such, sometimes you can get them for free or next to nothing. Also try toliet paper rolls, or paper towel rolls, tissue boxes, give him an ability to tunnel.

Congrats on your hammies....

He does have red eyes. That could be the issue.

Also, thanks for the tip on the bitter apple spray, I'll have to check that out. I have given him ample chew toys and stuff, including a kleenex box and a toilet paper roll. So idk, he just loves his bars. I don't want him to hurt himself though.

Thanks. ^_^

Aww she looks like an oreo :) or maybe a s'mores.

My hamster lady also bites the bars of her cage, much to my chagrin. When I first got her, she gave me two really hard bites (both drew blood), and I realized it was because I was invading what she considered "her" space (i.e. in her cage). Also make sure your ham sees your hand there before you try to pick him up....they can get very startled if they get grabbed before they know what's about to happen.

Good luck and congrats on the second one, she's a cutie!

Oreo appears to be the name I'm getting from most people, my little sister included. Thanks for your comment ^_^

Am so so tempted to get a second hamster. :D What do you think, Burroughs? *Burroughs gnaws thoughtfully on bit of banana ( ... )

thanks for the comment, idk if i wanna name her after food, my little sister suggested oreo. And thanks for the tip, i might try the play area with marshmallow to calm him down, and the new hamster will probably appreciate a play area too.
