Sundae is semi-trained to hop up on her house if she wants to come out. We did this because she discovered that the hands reaching in to pick her up came down right over her house and that if she stood there, she'd get to come out. So we enforced it by waiting until she stood on her house to pick her up. She's even got to the point where I'll be walking around my room and people will be coming and going, and she'll be standing on her house, stretching as far as she can like she's crying "pick me uuuuuup!!!!"

It's really cute. :)

Arnold figured out that the cage being opened let him out so he'll climb up the bars and onto my hand, but he won't walk onto my hand. I can also pick him up when he's inside - but as soon as he hears the door he races for that part of the cage. Even if I'm just feeding him and not letting him out. LOL

I've never heard anything about training them, but a friend of mine said her son's hamster would respond to his name and come to you when you called him. Mine will perk up their ears but I don't know if it's an actual response to their name or just my voice. And they definately don't come to me when I call them. LOL
