Very recently I noticed that my hamsters nose had red around it on some days. Last night I realized that it was blood. It's not gushing blood like a really bad nose bleed, but it is small blood around her nostrils. I thought it might be from the bedding I use, but I used tissue paper when I noticed the red the first time, and now I've switched ( Read more... )

is your hamster in a cage or habitat or aquarium? my hamster Lola chewed on the bars so much with her cage, that she developed a bruise like spot on her nose, and i touched it once by accident, and it bled a little

She lives in an aquarium.

I figure it might be from the tempurature in the room... perhaps it's too hot and sticky for her... or something along those lines. *shrugs*

I think my best bet is taking her to a vet for a check up just to be on the safe side.

Do you by any chance know how much a hamster vet check up would cost?

Thanks :)

While I'm all for taking her to the vet, do you think there's any chance she could have just bonked her nose on something? Mine do that all the time(but they're in a wire cage w/ a higher level & they're always climbing-and falling) Anyway, when I took Fek to the vet(he had an abscess) the entire bill was under $30 & I think around $20 of that was just for the checkup. We're in the Northwest though & *everything's* pricier up here, so hopefully your visit won't cost that much. Good Luck!

I'd take her to the vet to be safe. I use the cardboard bedding myself...I think that's Carefresh...can't remember the brand name atm. I've never had any problems with bedding.

My hamsters nose 'bleeds' about once a week. The vet has told me in the past that it's most likely due to banging her nose on the top and it bleeds slightly. I've been told to check her bedding constantly for more signs but so far I have seen none.

I have been told it's perfectly fine. Have you seen your vet yet? did she/he say anything about it?
