It can, but then autolinking defeats the purpose of of getting rid of some people.

well, you can choose that option, but i chose not to use it. basically there were a lot of people on my list that i didn't want anything to do with.

all you have to do is leave the community. go to the community user info, and click "leave this community" at the top. once you have left the community, you will not show in that list.
