This late at night? Ali's finally got the kids in bed, and has settled into her own, propped up with a sultana's share of pillows. A bowl of strawberries was balanced on her ever-growing stomach, swaying from time to time as she breathed and as the twins kicked and danced. The strawberries were sweet and juicy, staining her fingers pink; her book lay abandoned beside her. She looks quite relaxed, if a little unfocused.

Naturally, and more proof that he is a fool that he did not immediately think of it. He seems to have only gotten to be more of an idiot sense the war ended. Removed from violence--violence that he had come to loathe--had his senses truly taken leave of him?

Perhaps they had.

Hans hesitates for a moment, fear far worse than being under enemy guns ever filled him with filling his being, before he does indeed open the door.

He opens his mouth to speak, but finds no words come out and closes it quickly. "I..." he begins, mind racing desperately to finish the thought, to speak truthfully and honestly, not to dress it up with anything at all.

"I have done many terrible and stupid things before," he says, finally, "but I have come to realize that my most recent acts of stupidity have reached truly damning heights."
