Garage rewatch...

I'm nearing the end of Buffy The Vampire Slayer: S7 in my garage-biking re-watch. This is my least favorite season of the show, the one in which Joss Whedon breaks all his toys and goes home. There's so much that just makes me "Argh!", including Nathan Fillion as an evil woman-hater who fills me with stabbity rage! /o\

I recently watched ( Read more... )

I totally agree with you, even though, as you know, I am a believer, but even when I wasn't the idea of choosing evil just seemed so counter-intuitive.

One of the things I wonder, honestly, is about Satan-worshippers. This is not a being with a reputation for fairness or honoring his word. So, assuming you believe in him, why in the HECK would you enter into any kind of deal with him? Even if you're 'worshipping' him out of fear, what would make you think he wouldn't turn on you as soon as he stopped needing you?

It's not only sad and depressing, it's also not very smart.

It always seems the people who make deals with the Devil are always looking for immediate power without thinking of the long-term consequences. That's one thing I liked about Sarah Perry's version of Melmoth: the main character took some time in the final confrontation to think about what would happen if she accepted Melmoth's bargain and what had happened to people who did before.

For deals, that IS true. They only seem to be thinking about the near future-- which is perhaps why they make such deals in the first place? Instead of forming a plan and working toward goals that will get them closer. I mean, 'ultimate riches and fame!' is not the kind of thing that hard work ever guarantees, but you can certainly do better by working at it.

The worshippers, that's a whole other area of ugliness. Just... what?

I haven't worked up the courage to watch Hereditary yet. Everyone else in the family has watched it except for me.

I give you permission to pass on it. ;)

I don't really like horror movies, so I only watched this one because people felt it was a more 'intelligent' horror movie, or atypical, or something.

"A Quiet Place" was kind of atypical, but Hereditary seemed pretty solidly in the genre to me. And, ughhhh.
