I'm nearing the end of Buffy The Vampire Slayer: S7 in my garage-biking re-watch. This is my least favorite season of the show, the one in which Joss Whedon breaks all his toys and goes home. There's so much that just makes me "Argh!", including Nathan Fillion as an evil woman-hater who fills me with stabbity rage! /o\
I recently watched Hereditary, which was really unsettling. I'm surprised I made it to the end, actually. The child mutilation would usually be a deal-breaker, and I should have stopped there. The rest was creepy as all get-out, which you would expect, but I don't like horror movies to begin with, and this one touched on a particular area I explicitly dislike.
Most of you probably know I'm agnostic, and don't believe in gods or devils. I play around with demons and their foibles from time-to-time, mainly for humor, and the occasional god as well, but I don't think of any of them as real.
However... I do believe in human goodness and evil. Most good or evil is done by choice (though some people have settled into being overwhelming 'good' or 'bad' by temperament). And one thing I'm really disturbed by is people who choose to perpetuate and/or worship evil. How? WHY?
Both the BtVS character and the bent of Hereditary deal with that. Even as a concept, it just sickens me. I still think of supernatural evil as something that isn't real, but the idea of people who do believe in it choosing to embrace it?
There are no words for how awful that is.
and now you force me to rant,
