I think it's the sleepiness of the mood that drives the quiet. That and the emptiness of where they are, other than the enormous and powerful presence of nature itself.

Thank you! I love the idea of the stars under such a big, clear sky being so amazing that they stay with you even as you're drifting off.

We just don't get a sense of that anymore, and it's kind of sad.

Thank you! I love the setting as well-- being at peace with the "things that are out there" instead of at war with them makes for a nice change. :)
