So behind it isn't even funny...

Feb 02, 2010 00:05

I managed to get two weeks behind on my f-list, to the point where the "go earlier" function stops working. I'm only about a week behind now, but damn. Too many weekends filled with chores, too much craziness at work, and too many fics to write that I fall asleep in the middle of anyway. :0

Finally caught up on Supernatural too. First, there was ( Sam, Interrupted )

Really? Yark! I don't like the taste of egg yolk much (too sulphuric), so to me that just ruins what would be a perfect bacon cheeseburger!

adding fried eggs to their hamburgers, but I still think it's incredibly wrong

i have never heard of this practice, but i have to agree with you...so wrong! {{{shudder}}} ruins a perfectly good hamburger!

I've heard it mentioned, but I like to immediately run back into the denial stage and imagine that no-one ever does that. Egg yolk in an otherwise beautiful hamburger? *cries*

adding fried eggs to their hamburgers

Oh, over here we call that a "steak à cheval". Steak is, well, steak (but in this case, it's a hamburger) and "à cheval" means astride. I'm not sure where that name comes from since it's actually the eggs that are astride the hamburger, but well.
And I second your yuck. Not a fan of fried eggs in the first place.

? Interesting-- I know "cheval" (which I assumed meant horse) because of the ballet "pas de cheval" step.

My problem might the same as yours-- I like scrambled eggs and omelettes, and I can handle Eggs Benedict (though I like it when they fry the yolk more firmly), but I mostly hate egg yolk and I don't want to taste it in any undiluted form.

Like fried, poached, "over-easy," basted, hard-boiled or soft-boiled eggs.

And certainly not contaminating a perfectly good hamburger!

Fried eggs, no way. I just don't like the taste it gives them. But I do enjoy them hard-boiled or soft-boiled. Soft-boiled eggs with tiny slices of bread are yummy - and remind me of my childhood, but that's another story.

Yes, you're right, cheval = horse. In this case, it's the "à" that changes the meaning. Literally, "à cheval" means "straddling a horse", but more generally, it's also "being astride something".

Ballet? I knew you were into running, but I didn't know about ballet ;)

My ballet stayed at the "amateur" level (i.e., no "en pointe" work), but I had it as a child, and then later in college fairly regularly.

Some of those phrases really stick with you! Grande battement, jete, ronde du jamb (sp?), develope.

My in-college teacher would always say, "Only 90 today, class. Only 90 degrees" for most of the legwork. Which I found hilarious, since 90-degrees was my MAXIMUM extension. ;)

It must be a southern hemisphere thing... 'cause bacon, egg and cheese burgers are the most delicious thing out, if made properly! We totally love 'em down here!

I don't understand! *is perplexed*

Perhaps if I didn't hate egg yolk, I wouldn't find them quite so gross. But there's that, and then the messiness of it all. Yark.

Of course, my husband always liked to sprinkle granola on his ice cream, which I thought totally ruined the flavor because of the cinnamon in the granola.

*koff* Life as a super-taster is different from what other people experience, apparently. :0

I am so, so behind, too, like, more than a month, so I'm sure I've missed a bunch of your posts. :(

I just wanted to swoop in and offer you hugs. Therefore, *hugs*!

I've never heard of a fried egg on a burger before, either, and I'm not sure how to feel about it.

I know what you mean about the body-swap. I have a yearning to see Sam-in-Dean's-body ask himself, 'why do I suddenly feel so small?' Hee! I did enjoy the ep, though. :)

I'm sorry you're about as behind as me! I don't know why I'm lagging so much, but I think much of it is struggling to write in the little time that I have and wall-to-wall busy-ness at work.

I have a yearning to see Sam-in-Dean's-body ask himself, 'why do I suddenly feel so small?' Hee! I did enjoy the ep, though. :)
Or Dean in Sam's body smacking into "low-clearance" areas, because that would NEVER get old!

For things you might have missed, try the "my_fic" tag and see if anything catches your fancy. Can't remember if you're a Tony/Rhodey (or Iron Man) fan, or a John/Matt fan on top of everything else. But there's also been some Fringe fic (!), and some Burn Notice too (!!).
