I just stumbled into a discussion about depiction of women in comics that used the word 'cheesecake' a lot. (Is that the Western comics equivalent of 'fanservice'?) I completely lost track of the discussion because I found myself craving cheesecake so badly ( Read more... )

fANSERVICE USUALY INVOLVES BRA AND PANTIES SHOTS, OR COMPLETLY NUDE but OBSCURED SCENES LIEK SHOWERS AND HOTSPRINGS.
cHEESECAKE (no i cant be assed retyping the mangled caps) usual involves skintight outfits, impossibly large bust cups, and gratuitious fixation on a characters T&A rahter than face.
From these definitions, it becomes obvious that cheesecake usualy involves a specific sub seciton of fanservice, as (unfortunately, thanks japon) characters which are not curvacious enough to be cheesecake get fanserviced (think rei mi)

It's amazing the number of times female comic book characters find themselves in back breaking poses just so we can get a gratuitous shot of both their ass and their boobs at the same time. Thus the wonderful phrase "boobs don't work that way" that pops up a fair bit on scans_daily.

I was thinking the same thing when Adam stripped. He was wearing that the whole time! XD
