"Maybe it's the fucking District of Columbia - all that hot air's gotta sink that city."

Another reason - if another reason were needed - why our President should not be allowed to speak extemporaneously (the subject was the leak of Valerie Plame's name as a CIA agent, which puts Plame & her contacts in considerable danger & is - oh, yeah, a felony):

"Let me tell you: leaking classified information is - is - is - is a bad thing. ( Read more... )

I saw it on the BBC World News last night. I couldn't find a transcript on the site, but I admit to having done a half-assed job of looking.

Imagine the pain that I feel as a resident of Washington, DC. We don't have a real vote in Congress. The official motto on our license tags is "No taxation without representation." Seriously! (Don't know how we got away with that one.)

Since Congress oversees most of what goes on in the city, they often put their little fingers in our city's management. (A big one for me was when they refused to allow the medical marijuana bill the DC citizens voted for to take effect - and suppressed the vote count for it. Cause ya know, can't have "dangerous" prescription drugs available to such low life scum as DC cancer patients.) Whenever they want to do something they wouldn't get away with in their own states, they impose it on us and get big props from their conservative constituencies.

Man. That must suck. A lot. In the bad way.

More and more, the Shrub is eerily morphing into his father...the wars, the battered economy, the fractured syntax. That marvelously boneheaded quote you cite could well have come from a Dana Carvey routine.

Here's hoping the similarities continue through election day.

Here's hoping, indeed. Of course, if he has his family buy the election for him like they did last time, we're screwed no matter what (at least Jeb doesn't have to agonize over what to get his brother for Christmas in '04!).

There's a reason the shrub didn't get the popular vote in this country... and that would be it.

And he's getting worse. I knew it was a travesty to let the man speak without a written script when he said we were going to "hunt those folks down" in reference to Bin Laden and his supporters.

If you asking me, letting him *ever* open his mouth is "a bad thing".

My roommate argues that the Shrubbery should always speak unscripted, so that the American people can be exposed, on a continuous basis, to his inanity.

Despair not! His favorables are finally starting to slip; we'll kick his unelected ass out of the Oval in '04.

Huh. Know what I just realized? Our 'president' is a squatter.
