#mayans: Spanish TV host walks out over unfair treatment of Cristiano

Dec 07, 2012 12:07

Let that subject line sink in for a moment, will you?

While we are on the topic of Cristiano (given that it is his advent calendar day and all) I thought I'd share this moment that made a single tear spring into my eye.

It a Cristiano day today! This means it is an awesome day.

(I can't wait for his spam today - here's a preview):

As for this priceless moment -

Crispy is a fucking hero. NOBODY IN HISTORY has ever scored in the Liga at his rate. Not even Puskas. And who talks about it? NOBODY. And he has a fucking fine attitude. And he's lovable, and sweet, and good to his teammates, and he's never violent on the pitch, and he doesn't spit at people, and when he blasts the ball into the crowd by accident he takes off is shirt, and he puts his gum in his pocket instead of under the desk and he doesn't party or drink (but if he did, that would be fine), and he's a wonderful family man, and a great dad, and he's rich and talented and good-looking, and I LOVE his mother, and I want to pinch his cheeks all the time, and I still remember the EXACT MOMENT I fell in love with him because he smiled for the rest of the match like a fucking dork and the way he puffed out his cheeks before taking the penalty was TOO ADORABLE, and he looks gorgeous with ( ... )

THAT PENALTY! I've been looking for that everywhere!! That moment was featured in my favorite Nike ad of all time, and when I saw it I knew nothing of this "soccer" thing, but I remember that image gave me chills and I always thought, "Damn, I would hate to be on the other side of that!"

But seriously, everything in your comment is spot on. Even down to the cologne and hair gel. #truth

I just Googled it and it exists:

The definitive: "How to get your hair like Cristiano's"

Ded. Buried.

Fans with all their priorities in the right place tbh

Glorious.

This reminds me I was listening to a radio show once (a regular show, not even a sports one), and the hosts started talking about football. One of them made it really obvious that he hated Cris, so the other asked why. His answer was that because he couldn't stop touching his hair during games, which is probably the dumbest justification I've ever heard from a hater.

More I see *pardon my language* bastards like Platini and Blatter go on and on about how Messi deserves that shit golden ball, more hope I lose for the sport. FIFA and UEFA are nothing but a shitty corrupted organization and I can't help but love Ronaldo more for being true to himself.

He should never bow down to these guy or the media for not being humble or doesn't suck up to them.

That's exactly the reason I like him! He is who he is and he doesn't care about how he's coming off! He has grown up a lot but he doesn't change for anyone.

I hate when people say that he "needs to be more humble". First of all, if we were awarding people based off humility we'd have to resurrect Mother Teresa. He's an athlete: his job is to be the best, not the most humble. Second, I don't see the greatness in not being able to admit you've done great things. For example, with all of the goals and assists that Crispy has made and the way he helped the team to win the Liga and everything, I believe he has earned the right to look back and say: "I've had a great season, and compared to everyone else in the shortlist for Balon de Oro, I think I've earned the title of best in the world." I don't see anything arrogant in that statement, but maybe that's just me.

One of the many problems is that people have twisted "humility" and have made "self-confidence" and "self-awareness" synonymous with "arrogance".

Everything in this comment.

Cris has never once made a disparaging remark about Messi (or any other contenders), yet somehow "I want to win this and I think I deserve it" is supposed to indicate a raging sense of conceit?

A general, more serious comment:

The way in which CR7 is treated by the press (and I agree with Pedrerol - and he should know - it is xenophobic) directly impacts little things like who wins the balon d'or.

One of the greatest players the league has ever seen, the guy scoring at a rate never seen before in the league's history, the man who won the league with his team by scoring 40% of the goals, and who got within two penalty kicks of two finals is NOT GOING TO WIN - probably because of the joy the press takes in bringing this very nice young man down.

And someone who won the copa del rey - the least important of the three trophies that matter, and who is noisily (thank you again, press) chasing down a record (Gerd Mueller's) which he has already failed to meet will probably win the thing ( ... )

I still feel completely baffled by those spanish sports awards. Like what? it was Real Madrid who won the league with Ronaldo and Mou playing a important and vital past for getting those 100 points but they give the award to Guardiola and Messi. If that wasn't xenophobic bias, I don't know what is.

I also think Ozil and Benzema should have been recognized as well in those awards but zilch for them too. Only spanish players and messi can win those awards even though there are players from different country playing in their league.

RM had the best attack and Barcelona had the best defense in La Liga last season and they gave the defensive awards to RM and the attack awards to Barcelona.

I'm sure all logic behind this decision was 'Because fuck you, that's why'.

I had a long comment written out but it sounded preachy and whatnot about how Cris gets shit when it's unwarranted and unnecessary but I doubt it was relevant anyway when Jenny wrote it all in a much more simple manner.

I know for a fact that Cris is treated unfavorably in the press - because while most people haven't heard that Cris has broken his goal score in this calendar year, I'm sure people will read about his arrogance in the face of royalty that demands his head to be placed on the chopping block for being selfish and rude (as always).

"Off with his head!" the Spanish media will cry.

And before I forget, thanks for posting the translation of the video for everyone. This is like when I try to watch Jorge Ramos en vivo at times and they start blabbing over the other so I hear everyone's comments in Spanish and it's such a mess!
