Video Editing Program Advice?

I'm thinking of taking some video clips of around here to prove I'm neither exaggerating nor making anything up; kind of "A Day in the Life" sort of thing. I figure I'll take two or three minutes of digital video on my camera (of things like Ekk at the forge, swivel gun practice, and how to cook dinner on the woodstove) and put it up on YouTube ( Read more... )

I like using Windows Movie Maker, but it won't clip, just splice I believe. It's free if you have Windows XP.

Windows Movie Maker is highly recommended on YouTube.

I use Kino in Linux.

What sort of computer do you have? There are some simple programs out there that make it pretty easy.

By the way, I am so jealous that you have a wood stove. We have a forge though, so that's already taken care of. ;)

We have a couple different computers up here, all Windows machines with operating systems in varying degrees of modernity.

The reason I want to take video is that most people don't believe me when I talk about how I live, and the photos don't do it justice. I live on a former hippie commune with no running water. Electricity wasn't put in until this last decade. We didn't even get a working refrigerator till last fall. Ekk (the owner) is a blacksmith and boatbuilder, and I tend the horses and gardens and keep the stoves fed. Ekk's wife works outside the house. Except for electricity and internet, we really aren't too far removed from the historical periods we portray. My friends joke that I'm the only one they know who attends medieval recreation events for the modern conveniences. :)

Hm. Sadly, I'm not al that familiar with Windows.

If you had running water, I think I'd be up for your lifestyle. The 2am trot through the snow to go to the bathroom in the winter is not something I want to deal with outside of an event!
