William Hadley-Bright has yet to realize that he is not quite where he expected to be. Therefore, he has managed to avoid entirely any period of fear, frustration, desperate attempts to return home, &c, and in this, his first open post, is strolling along the main garden pathway. He would like most especially to see his tutor, or to continue, as ( Read more... )

Mr. Jones would love to see him again. Unfortunately, he is eleven. However, if Hadley-Bright should happen to hear a gun shot he would most likely find its source to be a rather familiar looking boy taking shots at a flock of geese with a musket.

When Hadley-Bright does hear such a gun shot, it is natural that he should go investigate.

'Fine shot!' he calls when he is close enough to see the noise's source.

Tom turns to him with a smile. "I know, sir! I missed, though."

'Even so! Say,' he says, looking at Tom a little closer, 'You do not happen to have a brother, do you?'

It seems there's something in the air, for Tom Jones is not the only one to be mysteriously youthful to-day. Jonathan Strange has gone out in search of the stables and a good horse, and as it turns out, his path crosses Captain Hadley-Bright's.

Hadley-Bright greets him with a cheerful, 'Good day!' He does not recognize his tutor, simply because the idea that a person who was quite grown, and even a bit old in the eyes of such a young man as Hadley-Bright, could quite suddenly become a child.

'Good day,' Jonathan replies, with a little less of his previous sullenness and a little more admiration for the shininess of Hadley-Bright's brass buttons, and the crispness of his soldier's uniform. 'Are you a captain, sir? Those buttons indicate that you are a captain, do they not?'

'They do, and I am. Captain Hadley-Bright-- and you?'

What about Lynette? Just because he's already met her, and because she is currently towing a stereo out to her shed. People should not just leave stereos lying around. They have all sorts of interesting parts in them.

'Hallo, Lynette!' Hadley-Bright calls, for one does not need to observe the same level of propriety with a servant.

She looks up. "Hello, ser," waving a little with one hand--since she doesn't know if he can hear her at this distance--shading her eyes with the other. Disordered hair and grubby coveralls aside, she looks very lovely.

'What is that?' he asks once he is a bit closer, with a nod in the stereo's direction.

Elizabeth Bennet, as we have mentioned before, is very fond of taking walks through the gardens and goes outside most days when the weather is fine; therefore it is of little surprise that she is walking to-day, and happens to run into Captain Hadley-Bright.

She stops in a little confusion at seeing someone from her own era, in a manner of dress she actually recognizes - and a soldier, at that! She is not her sisters, but is not entirely unaffected by the uniform, just the same.

'Good day, sir!' she calls out brightly.

Hadley-Bright bows. 'Good day, miss.'

"Forgive me," she smiles, walking a bit nearer, "I fear I must seem very forward indeed, but there seems little use in waiting for introductions in this House. I am Elizabeth Bennet."

'William Hadley-Bright, at your service, Miss Bennet.' He smiles as well.
