201: Lydia and Russ. Yeah, Russ could be a dick sometimes but they were partners for 8 years. That's a relationship. You take the good and the bad. Plus, if they didn't get their shit done, they probably wouldn't have worked together for so long. Despite the issues, they made a good team and you just don't get over that. I saw a LOT of comments where people seemed really confused that Lydia was so upset but I thought it worked.

202: Is it wrong that even when people were dying, I kept thinking, "JFC, his ARMS!"? It happened a lot with both Cooper and Ben. I'm really enjoying their partnership. They remind me of a little married couple. Now they just need to start hanging outside of work so that my brain can go to even naughtier places.

Agreed on the new!Olivia front. I don't like this change. Also, I was pretty excited to see Tammi at first. There's usually a part of me that enjoys her crazy but this time, I was just annoyed.

Kevin's character is Nate Moretta. <3 ( ... )

What you said, yes. Also, word to the bit about the Arm!Porn (as maurheti calls) and thanks for the Nate thing. I just keep seeing him and thinking hotass!Kevin Alejandro with that nasty facial public hair. (Really, it needs to go).

It's clear that the theme for tonight's episode was daughters. I got that, but Salinger... your dad did that? Uh huh.

I hate the facial hair. Has it grown more since 201? It could be a result of the undercover thing they're working. My dad did one of those for a few years and his beard went wild.

He did. It was in the evening but not late at night and I walked into my bedroom and there was someone climbing in. I didn't realize it was him...I think I grabbed a boot and waited. Then I saw him and was totally confused. He was pissed that I left the window open. We'd been getting them replaced and the new set didn't have screens, which was double the offense in his mind. He's weird.

No, scruff is allowed, what Nate has on his face is some sort of scuplted nonsense. It makes me want to call the gardner and take a weed whacker to it.

I love The Wire. I love the writing. I love that David Simon's expects a certain level of intelligence in his viewers; that he believes people are smart and inquisitive. I'm down with that. I think perhaps I shouldn't compare them. They both have their merits. If the Wire was still on the air, I'm sure I'd be saying it's the best.

Her care stands independently; it's not supposed to make us like Russell more, it just shows something about that relationship and about Lydia as a person.

Trufax!

Oh, I agree - and my comparison was not very clear, because 99% of the time I actually prefer seeing the craft in my television programming, especially when it's done in a way that doesn't take away one bit from the authenticity in storytelling. And NOBODY did that better than The Wire.

"Cooper's dealer is the tallest man in the world, right?"

I know! That's all I could think during the first viewing. How tall do you have to be to tower over Cudlitz?

I love your enthusiasm for this show. It's your love for this show that keeps me tuning in. That and Cooper/Sherman or whatever we're calling them, and the awesomeness that is Regina King.

This show is so motherfucking good.

12. I LOVED the continued development of Lydia's relationship with her new (temp) partner. It's not like everything's easy or perfect or like Russ now, it's just what happens when you work a case together and discover that maybe he's not totally incompetent.

BEN AND COOPER. They are looking fine, oh shit. Did you see Ben on Ellen today?

I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS SCENE NOW. Also, subtext.

Also also THE PACIFIC on Sunday! It is a good week.

I don't do spoilers but thanks anyway.

The clip doesn't have a content spoiler at all - he just told a story about filming a generic driving scene with Michael and an interaction between the actors off camera that's adorable. The story is about the actors, not the show or characters. I'm also not interested in spoilers so I totally respect that. I'm sorry to have given the impression of being someone who brings spoilers to someone's journal without knowing if they want them - not my intent at all.

No worries, it was more of my preventative measure. I know people get excited and sometimes what one person doesn't consider a spoiler another person is like, I did not want to know that.

Okay, I'm not really here because I am not caught up on watching Southland, but I had to tell you about something I saw on another site today:

A commenter said, "I'd like to propose a new Internet law: Simon's Law. At any given moment, some commentator on Gawker Media is referencing the work of David Simon. Usually it's from The Wire, but Generation Kill works, too. And when Treme gets going, Godwin watch out." (This was in a discussion of the casting for the action movie about Captain America. Someone posted a photo of Eric Nenninger and all the cool kids laughed.)

So you are right. Everything, everywhere leads back to David Simon. And now it's a law.

Well, to be fair, if it's Simon's law the have to include Homicide: Life on the Streets and The Corner, too. But there are worse ideas on the internet than that one.
