Went out to see The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which I had read
the book last month. The best film adaptation of a book I've seen in a long, long time - criteria for that vary, of course, but to satisfy me it has to be mostly true to the book (including whodunnit) and a good movie in its own right. The fact that it's 2.5 hours long does not take it down in my eyes, and it sure didn't feel that long. Noomi Rapace is awesomely fierce; Sven-Bertil Taube has aged well. Like the book, decidedly not for the squeamish. Added: I note that, unlike the book, Blomkvist in the movie does have memories of his first time on the island.
When we got out of the theater the air was strangely hazy. Looked at first like the haze of extremely hot and humid, but it wasn't hot at all, almost cool. Then I thought maybe some kind of ocean mist effect, but while that might have been possible in Danvers the same effect is still here in Wilmington, which I'd have thought was too far inland. Oh well, kewl.
