Great story. I never get tired of post-Cyberwoman stories, and while I enjoy all the conflict, drama and punishment that most people write about, I thought your story was the most accurate one I've read. I can really imagine it happening exactly as you've written. Good job.
That was brilliant. I, er, generally don't read post-Cyberwoman stories (they usually bore me) but I've noted your comments are usually very interesting and so I thought I'd have a look. X3 It's great, I just... Great fic. Just... so much more realistic than so many out there. <3 Thank you for this. It's a breath of fresh air.
I shouldn't try to review things at this time of night.
I'm glad you thought it was realistic. It's how I really think it ought to have gone down. I'm not bored by the more angsty post-Cyberwoman fics but I always view them as disconnected to the actual episode, mostly because I recognized Ianto's symptoms as soon as I caught on to his background. Breath of fresh air? Wow, thanks! That's quite a compliment.
Great story! I've been thinking PTSD ever since I saw Cyberwoman, and can't understand why Jack didn't recognize it almost immediately, especially given his understanding of Tommy's situation. Canary Wharf, the strain of trying to rehabilitate Lisa, working so desperately to get Jack to hire him - then tack on Lisa's death and the two people she killed - it's a wonder he could function at all. And then the cannibals! Maybe after Countrycide the penny dropped for Jack and their relationship moved forward. On a separate note, I love your icon. Did it come from the HPL Historical Society? Cthulhu fhtagn!
I have no idea where the picture in my icon came from but I made the icon from it. (I remain startled to realize that GDL is also a Lovecraft fan...)
I suspect, had the writers been a little more "people" oriented than "action" oriented, they'd have written it so that Jack recognized the symptoms early. He does hint that he knows something, but no specifics are offered. But I do get the feeling that Jack is supposed to recognize the situation. He does work on begging Ianto, then demanding of Ianto, to get over it. Face it, Jack is no psychiatrist. And if he were to visit one ... well, let's just say that I have no intention of writing a fic where Jack meets Sigmund Freud anytime soon. LOL!
