Series 2 promo pics have just been released by the BBC - the ones containing our favourite ladies are under the cut, as well as squee and some speculation: ( THE PRETTY. )
I can't believe we're less than a month away from series 2. *flails*
Also, I'd bet there are more promos forthcoming; after all Arthur only has one alone shot as well, and I doubt his storylines will get less time, and certainly not less time than Gwen's if series 1 is precedent. But I'd definitely agree about the general tone - Katie's looks darker and a little more ominous. Which follows what we know is coming for each of them, but this does seem to suggest that it's coming a little sooner, maybe? Hm.
Regardless, they are both killing me. God, Angel looks fantastic.
Yeah, that's true about the number of shots - I have to wonder how the person who got hold of them for Merlin's keep did it. It could be that these were leaked accidentally, which is why there's an odd/uneven number of them for each character.
But seriously - ANGEEEEL. So pretty it kind of BURNS a little. :P
I had such a moment of squee when I saw these and the other promos. The ensemble shot is amazing, and the costume changes have me bouncing all over the place!
I agree, the pictures really do seem to hint at the future to come -- Morgana's going down a dark path (KM got the pale, mysterious look down pat, go girl!), and Gwen's future happiness (until Lancelot returns and they set up the love triangle from hell).
Have to say, that first shot of Gwen, the profile shot, is my favorite. The others are gorgeous, of course, but there's just something about that first one, that faint little smile she has on her face... *flails* Awesomesauce! ;D
I find the main promo most interesting. It's prioritising them thus:

That seems to me almost as if Morgana has been 'promoted' since last series.
Gwen looks really pretty but they have got to dial back her nicey nicey character some what. Re-watching the episodes made me realise how perilously close to a Mary Sue she is.
And yes, Morgana's size in the ensemble (although she's always been the main promo girl) and general demeanor makes me so worried for her this season... don't go all evil yet, Morgana!
(Gwen being nice didn't bother me at all last season, because if our protagonist is trying to figure out whether or not to kill a kid, it's probably a good thing there's somone who can keep the moral centre! But a few more character-centric lines for her would be nice.)
Definitely agree about the shift in tone - one thing I noticed about Katie's picture was that her hair is down and the teeth-like beads around her neckline, which seemed a bit wilder and more pagan-y. Also, in both pictures she's wearing green, which in the series tends to correlate to magic. Obviously they're moving away from Morgana as a princess and towards Morgana as a sorceress.

Just from the promo's we can see that this is going to be a very interesting series, I can't wait to see what happens!
