What never happens?

Massachusetts has very stringent gun laws. Basically, if you want to own a handgun legally you have to have a licence to carry a concealed weapon. Getting a license to carry a concealed weapon is not easy. I went through the hoops (and paid a bunch of money) and got one on the grounds that I am a business owner who walks my cash deposits to the ( Read more... )

Was it an armed robbery? With a gun?

They closed off half our town a few months ago because there were "reports of a person with a weapon" near the community college, which later turned out to be unfounded/false alarm/whatever. Stupidest BS ever.

As far as I know there was only a note handed to the teller. My teller.

But as for gun scares, we have you beat in Massachusetts, I assure you:

If I had a note to the teller demanding $200, she will just give it to me? Are tellers authorized to laugh in the face of someone demanding money? Maybe I should let my five year old demand money.

Yes, if you walked into your bank and handed over a note demanding cash, I think there's an excellent chance that you'd get some cash. Not much cash - I think most unarmed bank robbers only get a couple hundred dollars. And a prison sentence.

I guess I'm wondering how the fact that you carry a concealed weapon is relevant in this case. From what I read, no weapon was shown. The bank is insured. Given the situation, had you been there as it was happening, what could you have done with the gun?

The note implied he had a gun, and threatened violence.

But the point is that armed robbers go where I go. If someone comes up to rob you and they say "give me your money and I won't shoot" you should NOT believe they are honorable people making a deal they will adhere to. Because next thing after you give them your money they shoot you to leave fewer witnesses. Or hijack you. Or rape you.

The proper way to handle being attacked by someone with a gun is to, well, nevermind. There's no point discussing it.

Let me finish the sentence for you and take the aggro:
The proper way to handle being attacked by someone with a gun is to shoot them or otherwise respond in a violent and injurious manner. But, historically, shooting them works best.
